[Joke] By the way, what did the chicken do?

Image
Another joke for today... So there's this fella with a parrot. And this parrot swears like a sailor. I mean he's a pistol. He can swear for five minutes straight without repeating himself. Trouble is, the guy who owns him is a quiet, conservative type, and this bird's foul mouth is driving him crazy. One day, it gets to be too much, so the guy grabs the bird by the throat, shakes him really hard, and yells, "QUIT IT !". But this just makes the bird mad and he swears more than ever. Then the guy gets mad and says, "OK for you", and locks the bird in a kitchen cabinet. This really aggravates the bird, and he claws and scratches, and when the guy finally lets him out, the bird cuts loose with a stream of vulgarities that would make a veteran sailor blush. At that point, the guy is so mad that he throws the bird into the freezer. For the first few seconds, there is a terrible din. The bird kicks and claws and thrashes. Then it suddenly gets very very qui

[Firefox] about:robots - Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!

Image
We have posted a plugin for Firefox , now we also have a trick with it. It's maybe an old thing, but somehow I remember it today. Try to type "about:robots" in the address bar, and you will find this: You also can see "Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!" on the title bar. "Klaatu barada nikto" is a phrase originating from the science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). "Klaatu" is the name of the humanoid alien protagonist in the film. Klaatu (Michael Rennie) commanded Helen Benson (Patricia Neal) that, were anything to happen to him, she must utter the phrase to the robot Gort. In response, Gort relented from destroying the Earth and resurrected Klaatu from death. “     There's no limit to what he can do. He could destroy the earth... If anything should happen to me you must go to Gort, you must say these words, "Klaatu barada nikto", please repeat that.     ” —Klaatu NOTE: JUST NOTICED THAT PEOPLE W

[Tips] Extra virtual RAM on your USB Drive

Image
We have posted a tips on how to speed up your computer . One of the tips is add more RAM. Now we will show you another tips related with RAM, it's "virtual memory". In computing, virtual memory is a memory management technique developed for multitasking kernels; this technique virtualizes a computer architecture's various hardware memory devices (such as RAM modules and disk storage drives), allowing a program to be designed as though: there is only one hardware memory device and this "virtual" device acts like a RAM module. the program has sole access to this virtual RAM module as the basis for a contiguous working memory (an address space). For the best results, Instructables user MoritzB suggests using a USB drive smaller than 4 GB for this little trick. Here are the steps to make your USB Drive works as virtual RAM: Rename your thumb drive as "RAM DRIVE" or something similar, so you can see which drive is being used as RAM. [Article] And the ".XXX" finally approved

If you are a web designer, we have some tips for you. If you are an owner of an adult website, we have a good news for you.  ICANN Board Approves Dot-XXX Top-level Domain for Porn Yes, the pornography industry now has its own top domain. It's not only a good news for the industry but also for the parents, it will be much easier to identify a porn site on parental control software. The name is inspired by the former MPAA and BBFC "X" rating, now commonly applied to pornographic movies as "XXX". ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers) announced in June 1, 2005 a preliminary approval of .xxx as an sTLD similar to .aero, .travel, etc., but on May 10, 2006, it reversed the approval, and on March 30, 2007, the ICANN board rejected the .xxx proposal, the third time since the .xxx domain had been first suggested. The decision was appealed by ICM Registry, who on April 26, 2010, sent out an email noting that they had won their appeal with ICANN and

[Security] [Utility] Sagan - a real time log monitoring system.

Image
Another security utility for you. Softwink announces the release of Sagan, a real time log monitoring system. Sagan is a multi-threaded, real time system and event log monitoring system, but with a twist. Sagan uses a "Snort" like rule set for detecting bad things happening on your network and/or computer systems. If Sagan detects a "bad thing" happening, that event can be stored to a Snort database (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and Sagan will attempt to correlate the event with your Snort Intrusion Detection/Intrusion Prevention (IDS/IPS) system. Sagan is fast - Sagan is written in C and is a multi-threaded application. Sagan is threaded to prevent blocking Input/Output (I/O). For example, data processing doesn't stop when an SQL query is needed. Sagan uses a "Snort" like rule set - If you're a user of "Snort" and understand Snort rule sets, then you already understand Sagan rule sets. Essentially, Sagan is compatible with Snort rule management

[Utility] Shutdown timer for your automatic process

Image
Sometimes I left my computer downloading something with download manager while I go to work. And I need to shutdown my computer after the download process is completed. I use a tool called "Shutdown Timer". Shutdown Timer is a utlity that will allow you to perform certain actions relating to shutting down the system. The user interface is easy to use and understand and you should be able to get to grips with it. Windows has built-in tools for basic shut down like using schedules tasks to specify when you want your machine to shut down. The built-in functionality isn't very diverse or—as your demands get more advanced—easy to use. Shutdown Timer makes it dead simple to specify things like "Shut down my computer when the CPU usage falls below 20% for at least 20 minutes." or "Hibernate after my network card is idle for 15 minutes." The name is catchy, but you shouldn't take it too literally; Shutdown Timer lets you do other operations besides just

[Utility] Devuvuzela - Remove the annoying sound of Vuvuzela

Image
We have posted some links for FIFA World Cup 2010 live streaming . One thing about this event is the constant buzzing sound of Vuvuzela, and it's a little annoying for me. Thanks to the great engineers at Stardock and  Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary, University of London , now we can enjoy the live streaming without this Vuvuzela sound. For you who just hear the sound but don't know what Vuvuzela is, here is some info about Vuvuzela. The vuvuzela , also known as lepatata (its Tswana name), stadium horn and plastic trumpet, is a typical 65 cm (2.13 ft) plastic blowing horn that produces a loud, distinctive monotone B?3 note (the B? below middle C). A similar instrument, known as the corneta, is used in Brazil and other Latin American countries. Many types of vuvuzela, made by several manufacturers, may produce varying intensity and frequency outputs. The intensity of these outputs depends on the blowing technique and pressure exerted. Traditionally made and inspired fr

[Article] Why Do We Call Software, Software?

Image
The word “software” has actually been in use for decades before the invention of the computer – it was actually coined in 1851 in the cotton and wool mills of North West England to describe clothing and cloth which had a superior finish – it was quite literally soft wear. The modern source of the term, “software”, dates back to 1960 and was used to describe the programs which were run on a computer, itself termed “hardware”. Hardware was a term borrowed from the tools, plant and machinery vendors who referred to their goods as “hardware”, as in the hardware store – a popular term used widely in society those perhaps less today. In the pre-computer era, hardware was more likely to be used to refer to a hammer or circular saw than an electronic gadget. The first use of hardware as it applies to computers and peripherals is thought to have originated from the NASA rocket development teams who designed, built and tested the rockets and systems which would one day take men to the moon.

[Joke] Password selection rules

Image
Another joke from lolisoft today...   CORPORATE DIRECTIVE NUMBER 88-570471 In order to increase the security of all company computing facilities, and to avoid the possibility of unauthorized use of these facilities, new rules are being put into effect concerning the selection of passwords. All users of computing facilities are instructed to change their passwords to conform to these rules immediately. RULES FOR THE SELECTION OF PASSWORDS: 1. A password must be at least six characters long, and must not contain two occurrences of a character in a row, or a sequence of two or more characters from the alphabet in forward or reverse order. Example: HGQQXP is an invalid password. GFEDCB is an invalid password. 2. A password may not contain two or more letters in the same position as any previous password. Example: If a previous password was GKPWTZ, then NRPWHS would be invalid because PW occurs in the same position in both passwords. 3. A password may not contain the name of a

[Firefox] HTTPS Everywhere: Firefox plugin that encrypts connections whenever it's possible

Image
We have discussed about OSI Layer security , now we will see one TCP/IP Protocol that commonly used as a secure connection, HTTPS. Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol with the SSL/TLS protocol to provide encryption and secure (website security testing) identification of the server. It uses port 443. HTTPS connections are often used for payment transactions on the World Wide Web and for sensitive transactions in corporate information systems. HTTPS should not be confused with Secure HTTP (S-HTTP) specified in RFC 2660 The main idea of HTTPS is to create a secure channel over an insecure network. This ensures reasonable protection from eavesdroppers and man-in-the-middle attacks, provided that adequate cipher suites are used and that the server certificate is verified and trusted. The trust inherent in HTTPS is based on major certificate authorities which come pre-installed in browser software (this is equivalent to saying &

[Utility] Faster download with download manager

Image
You have some MP3 , and now you want to download more MP3 . One tool that can help you to make your downloading job easier is download manager. A download manager is a computer program dedicated to the task of downloading (and sometimes uploading) possibly unrelated stand-alone files from (and sometimes to) the Internet for storage. This is unlike a World Wide Web browser, which is mainly intended to browse web pages, composed of a multitude of smaller files, where error-free moving of files for permanent storage is of secondary importance. (A failed or incomplete web page file rarely ruins the page.)  The typical download manager at a minimum provides means to recover from errors without losing the work already completed, and can optionally split the file to be downloaded (or uploaded) into 2 or more segments, which are then moved in parallel, potentially making the process faster within the limits of the available bandwidth. (A few servers are known to block moving files in parallel

[Security] Kick out the spyware

Image
We have discussed antivirus before, now we will discuss its friend. Nowadays, you might have noticed of a threatening word "Spyware". Spyware software is becoming annoyance for the companies. Spyware is likely to be verified as a great damager to the companies. It is not so noticeable like spam and virus assaults to the systems. [Joke] Operating systems as beers

Image
Time to release some stress.. Time for a joke and a glass of beer. Let see how a glass of beer can represents some operating systems: DOS Beer -- Requires you to use your own can opener, and requires you to read the directions carefully before opening the can. Originally only came in an 8-oz. can, but now comes in a 16-oz. can. However, the can is divided into 8 compartments of 2 oz. each, which have to be accessed separately. Soon to be discontinued, although a lot of people are going to keep drinking it after it's no longer available. Mac Beer -- At first, came only a 16-oz. can, but now comes in a 32-oz. can. Considered by many to be a "light" beer. All the cans look identical. When you take one from the fridge, it opens itself. The ingredients list is not on the can. If you call to ask about the ingredients, you are told that "you don't need to know." A notice on the side reminds you to drag your empties to the trashcan. Windows 3.1 Beer -- The wo
